Thank you for choosing Missouri Boot & Shoe Company.
We are the OLD RELIABLE BOOT MAKER SERVING YOU FOR OVER 30 YEARS.
Historic Note: Most of my original period boots
are made from light upper leather and we duplicate this. Period boots wrinkle up over the instep. Just look at the photos of the time period that have boots visible in them. We do offer a period style boot that is fully
lined and less likely to wrinkle up over the instep for those who desire it. (See Our Style BN-4)

Tap Sole On The CVB-TAP Boot
What The Heck Is A Tap?
The word "Tap" refers to an added layer of leather placed on the sole of a shoe or boot. It maybe
added as part of the style and ornamentation or it may be added as a repair over a worn sole. Without destroying
the originals we can not tell what the case was with the boots these are copied from. But the tap looked
great on the boots and we felt it should also be placed on our reproduction of them.

CV-TAP
Pegged Sole
16 x 18 Inch Civil War Boots
The originals
of these boots had a tap sole and we have faithfully reproduced it on our reproduction. It will make a unique addition to
your boot collection as it comes with the Tap Sole or added layer of sole leather on the front part of the sole of the boot.
(No it will not wear longer, when the bottom layer is worn it is time for repair.) The waxed flesh leather uppers are 16
x 18 inch tall. The soles are pegged 4-5 pegs per inch with heels hand nailed with iron square cut nails same
as specified for the original boots. The uppers are made of top
grade leather tanned to our specifications. They are built on copies of
original lasts in our private collection that were reproduced, under contract, exclusively for Missouri Boot and Shoe Company.
Like all of our footwear these boots are carefully patterned from original specimens and period patterns. The uppers
are stitched together with the same number of stitches per inch as the originals. These boots will
add something unique to your impression.

Don’t Forget Your Boot & Shoe Care Kit to help insure long wear.
You
Just Bought Expensive Boots So Why Spend More Money On Leather Care Products?Dirty footwear may be cool to youthful reenactors looking to have that "hardened campaign" look but the seasoned reenactor knows the value of clean footwear. When dirt and barnyard acids are allowed to stay in footwear it speeds up their demise. Never put grease or oil over dirt it seals it in to damage your footwear. When kept clean footwear
last longer, feels and looks better and can
have new soles and heels put on them. New soles
and heels are a fraction of the cost of having to completly replace mistreated footwear.
How Your Footwear Should Fit.
Mid 19th Century footwear has a long tapered
toe.
You should have at
least a thumb's breadth of
room in front of your
big toe.
From the outside your shoes
or boots will look
longer than they really
are on the inside. As
you wear your shoes
or boots they will shorten
in length. This is normal for mid-19th
century
footwear.
Boots and some bootees can slip up
and down
on your heel when
new. As they are worn they
will "set" to your foot and the slipping decrease.
|

Toe with thumb's breadth of room
