Footwear Care How To Guide

Proper Care Of Footwear

Why Spend Money On Shoe Care Products?

Dirty footwear may be cool to youthful re-enactors

looking to have that "hardened campaign" look but

the seasoned re-enactor knows the value of clean

footwear.  When dirt and barnyard acids are

allowed to stay in footwear it speeds up their

demise. Never put grease or oil over dirt it seals

it in to damage your footwear. When kept clean

footwear last longer, feels and looks better and

can have new soles and heels put on them. New

soles and heels are a fraction of the cost of having

to completly replace mistreated footwear

For best results  follow all five of  these steps
after each event.

Protect Your Investment-Care For Your Footwear
1) Keep wet or damp footwear away from heat or
open flame.  It doesn't take long to  heat the
leather to the point of embrittlement.  Allow
leather to dry naturally and slowly.  Do not
allow it to mold or mildew.

2) Before applying grease or wax clean footwear.
Clean uppers with saddle soap, following
    container directions.    Allow footwear to
dry after  cleaning before applying grease
or wax.   (Putting grease or wax on unclean
leather will not protect  your  footwear.)

3) Leather needs it' natural oils and greases
    replenished.  Use Huberd's shoe grease
after each cleaning.  Work the grease into
clean, dry footwear.  Allow to soak in.

4) Next, put on a good coat of Lincoln
Stain Wax and it will help restore
     the color and provide protection
     and shine.

5) Next, use your horse hair brush to smooth down waxed flesh leather  and buff to a soft shine or to put a glossy shine on smooth out leather.

After applying the wax if you spray a fine mist of water on top of the leather it will help you achieve a better shine. Don't over do the water.
Using just a fine mist on top of the wax will aid in shining the leather.
