HAVERSACKS

We are please to offer you these detailed copies of documented  Civil War era haversacks. We offer both military and civilian bags. Each bag is carefully patterned from original specimens, period patterns and government specifications.  Features found on the various bags include hand sewing, our own hand made wooden buttons, period correct tin buttons, period correct hardware and a high attention to capturing the fine details of each original. These are historically correct, museum quality haversacks suitable for use in reenacting, museum exhibition and for collectors. They will provide years of service if properly cared for. The only area we depart from the originals is we do not use period paint recipes. The bag is coated with the same non-toxic coating as our Knapsacks for your protection.

The one place we deviate from the original haversacks is the coating.

No, We Do Not Use Period Paint Recipes

YES! We use a latex base coating on all our knapsacks

and haversacks. Missouri Boot & Shoe Company made

a conscious decision not to use period paint due to fire

and health hazards both to our ourselves and to our

customers.

Boiled Linseed Oil is a main ingredient

in “period paint recipes.” It contains

lead, arsenic, beryllium, chromium,

cadmium and nickel. These elements

are toxins, carcinogens and teratogens
